Inaugural function for apprentices selected for Centara Grand Island Resort and Spa under the Skills, Training, and Employment Program (S.T.EP) was held at the resort on 12^th September 2014. The chief guest for the ceremony was Minister of Environment and Energy Honorable Thariq Ibrahim. Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism , Dr. Ahmed Salih, State Minister of Education Mr. Adam Shareef Umar, ADH. Mahibadhoo Constituency member Honorable Piggyslots Ahmed Thoriq and other senior government officials participated in the function.

Currently there are Thirty one students and ten resorts participating in the Program. This is program which was initiated in 2013 by Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
